J Reviews - Not in Alphabetical Order

J. A. Jance - Birds of Prey

I beieve this is my first Jance novel. I like her main character, P.J. Beaumont. In this story he accompanies his 80 something grandmother and her new 80 something husband on their Alaskan cruise honeymoon. Someone falls overboard, someone gets pushed off a train! Nothing is as it appears! There are some colorful characters and the story line does twist around and keep you wondering and trying to figure out what is going on. The ending is surprising! I recommend it! It is a good read!

P. D. James - Death of an Expert Witness

I likes James' stories. They are well constructed and even though you can't guess who the culprit is, you don't feel tricked or decieved. This story is about the murder of a forensic scientist and it takes place in the forensic lab! Very ironic. But who did it? The ex-girlfriend? Another scientist? The secretary? I liked a lot of the characters in the perimiters of the main action. Quirky, yet very likeable for the most part. This is a definite must for mystery and murder fans.

Jonnie Jacobs - Shadow of Doubt

Kali O'Brien is our main character in this story, a debut novel of the character I believe. She is a San Francisco lawyer who has gone back to her Sierra hometown to clean up and sell her father's home after his death. A murder takes place Kali's old friend, the wife of the victim, is under suspicion. This story has some good twists and we see Kali reconcile old and new relationships, very much like we ourselves have to do. I liked this story, then I do like stories set in my homestate. I like the other "new" female detectives that are back east and all that, but I enjoy having the action closer to home as well. I'll keep an eye out for more books by Jonnie Jacobs and I think you should too.
