D Reviews - Not in Alphabetical Order

Diane Mott Davidson - Killer Pancake

Once more Goldy finds herself knee deep in food and murder! Make-up and models and animal radicals! Bodies falling from the ceiling! What will Goldy do to solve this problem? Between cooking and sleuthing, Goldy solves the mystery! If you've been reading Goldy all along, you'll find this story just as tasty as all the others!

Diane Mott Davidson - Prime Cut

Goldy is having a lot of problems in this story! I don't want to give anything away, but some people are playing some really nasty games! And Goldy just might be the loser! I have really enjoyed this series of stories, the recipes keep getting better and better, and the mix of characters continues to keep things hopping. In this book she is catering to a bunch of starving models! We learn about old west prison codes, torn up re-modeling projects, and innocent people accused of heinous crimes. Stick with Goldy and not only will you eat well, but you will enjoy a great mystery!

Jeanne M. Dams - The Victim in Victoria Station

This book is one of a series. It is the first one I have read. I am not sure if I will read another one, I may. The character, Dororthy, is an American married to an English cop, and living in England. However, some of the descriptions, while good, did not ring as true as those I've read by British writiers. The characters were likeable, but I thought they were a bit stiff. But the story had a good line and was fairly lively and active.

Nelson DeMille - The General's Daughter

I saw the movie last summer and like the suspense and the story and so read the book. I liked the character of Brenner, this is the character John Travolta played in the movie. He tells a good story and the character quirks are great. I liked the commentary and comparisons with old Army and new. This story deals with loyalty to family or to the Army, country. What price do we pay for our mistakes? This is a good read, but not a lighthearted whodunit. It explores some of the most darkest areas of human behavior and retaliation. I highly recommend this book. Go buy it now on Amozon.com and you'll have it in a couple of days, just enough time to finish up what you're reading now and be ready for DeMille's book.

Diane Mott Davidson - The Goldy Bear Series

I can now add Catering to Nobody to my list of books read in this series! I can tell the evolution of the series by the way the recipes are highlighted. In this book they have not been given a name and they are embedded in the regular text of the story only highlighted by a border. In this story she is accused of trying to kill her former father-in-law. After I read them all, I think I will put them all in order and start from the start! I like Goldy and the people around her are interesting. One of the things I like about this series is the ordinariness of the people, just like many of the people we know in our lives. Even though an awful lot of things happen to Goldy they all seem perfectly normal! For Goldy anyway. This is a highly recommended series and this story makes up a great part of the story.

Goldy is a caterer in a small mountain town in the Colorado Rockies. She has survived, just barely, an abusive marriage to a wealthy, arrogant doctor. Who by the way still lives in the same town, and plays a part in all the novels I've read so far. In The Grilling Season he is a suspect in a murder. I'm afraid I am not reading them in the proper order. The first one I read was The Grilling Season, which actually follows the next one I read, The Cereal Murders. But it didn't really matter that I read The Grilling Season first, because even though some are continuing characters, Davidson gives enough information, without retelling the previous stories, to know the character. Goldy is a character that I can relate to even though I am no longer in my thirties, and have never had a child. She experiences self doubt and spurts of confidence the way many of us do. I love some of her thoughts! I like her. I don't think you would be disappointed in any of the stories. One of the pluses of the stories is the recipes. Yes, recipes. Goldy is a caterer and many of her adventures stem from that occupation. What do you do to relax or try to forget a problem? Goldy cooks! So, many of the creations for her catering parties are given to the reader. I haven't tried any yet, but I plan to. I am currently reading Dying For Chocolate which takes place before both of the books I have already read. I think you would enjoy these stories, if just for the great recipes! These books are definitely for you if you have a "taste for murder", pun intended!

I have finished Dying for Chocolate and it was very good! I really like Goldy and her best friend, Marla. Marla, by the way, is also an ex-wive of Goldy's ex-husband! How's that? In this book, Goldy is a live-in cook for an eccentric General and his wife, little did she know it would be a recipe for murder! I like Ms. Davidson's characters and the way she weaves them all into the story. You are a little suspicious of everyone! I highly recommend any of Ms. Davidson's Goldy books. I'm about ready to get another handful of books and I'm pretty sure another Goldy story will be in the bunch!
